From supporting students on exam day to bringing books into classrooms, JUSDA’s community initiatives address immediate needs while helping young people discover new possibilities.

On September 8, Henan Daily’s news app featured JUSDA’s donation of more than 1,000 books and a one-year subscription to Sunshine Youth Newspaper to Fuhe Hope Primary School in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, China.

The initiative follows JUSDA’s volunteer support during the national college entrance examination in June. Together, these activities reflect a shared commitment: understanding what students need at different stages of their education and offering practical support that helps them move forward with confidence.

Opening Books, Expanding Horizons

When JUSDA volunteers arrived at Fuhe Hope Primary School on September 7, a school reading event was already underway. Henan Daily’s reporters described children gathering around the newly delivered books, picking up illustrated stories and turning the pages together with curiosity and excitement.

Their response brought the purpose of the donation to life. For children discovering the world, reading beyond the curriculum can nurture curiosity, imagination and independent thinking. Making books more accessible gives those abilities more room to grow.

Fuhe Hope Primary School serves 389 students across six grades and nine classes. All come from nearby villages, and many have parents who work away from home.

The donated books will expand the school’s collection, while the year-long newspaper subscription will provide fresh reading material throughout the school year.

The lasting value of a donation also depends on how the resources are used. Principal Liu Qiang said the school would care for the books, make full use of them and organize regular reading and sharing activities. By incorporating the new materials into school life, teachers can help turn access to books into an ongoing reading habit.

“One book may not change a child’s life, but book by book, we can help brighten more futures,” said Li Junqiang at the donation ceremony.

His words capture the patience behind meaningful support for education: giving children time and opportunities to explore, discover their interests and build on what they learn.

Practical Support, When It Matters

The same attention to everyday needs shaped JUSDA Zhengzhou’s volunteer activities during China’s national college entrance examination, known as the gaokao, in June.

Coordinated by JUSDA manager Li Junqiang, the team drew on experience from previous years to refine site arrangements, supplies and volunteer schedules, supporting students, waiting parents and personnel on duty.

A larger rest area gave parents a place to take a break during the long wait. Alongside drinking water, volunteers prepared pens, tissues, wet wipes and eyeglass cleaner for unexpected needs. They also provided water and supplies to help traffic police and other on-duty personnel cope with the summer heat.

These details reflect a practical approach to volunteering: understand the situation people are facing, then offer timely, useful help. Learning from each activity allows the team to improve the support it provides.

At examination sites, that meant easing immediate pressures. In the classroom, it meant enriching the resources available for everyday learning. Both initiatives focus on helping students at moments that matter.

Putting Social Responsibility into Practice

Henan Daily’s coverage offers a local perspective on how businesses can contribute to the communities where they operate.

A company’s presence in a region connects it with local employees, families and schools. Supporting education is one way to strengthen those relationships. Through employee volunteering and contributions that schools can put to use, JUSDA brings its ability to organize people and resources to community needs.

Participation also creates opportunities for learning within employees’ own families. During the June examination support activities, some employees’ children joined the volunteers, helping label supplies and hand out water. Taking part gave them a chance to practice cooperation, consideration and responsibility through helping others.

These efforts give tangible meaning to the social dimension of environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments. Understanding community needs, considering how donated resources will be used and improving volunteer services over time all help make corporate responsibility part of everyday practice.

From a bottle of water offered outside an examination site to a book opened in a classroom, each contribution starts with a specific need. Its value grows when support continues, resources are used well and more people take part.

Through these ongoing efforts, JUSDA aims to help young people broaden their horizons and approach the future with confidence.
